About The TAD
Property taxes can be confusing, and the different agencies involved do not always make their roles clear. The Tarrant Appraisal District Board of Directors provides oversight and direction for the appraisal district—the organization responsible for determining the taxable value of property in Tarrant County.
The board’s job is to make sure the appraisal district operates fairly, responsibly and in accordance with Texas law. Board members hire and oversee the chief appraiser, approve the district’s annual budget, establish operating policies and monitor how taxpayer dollars are being used. They also appoint members of the Appraisal Review Board and the taxpayer liaison officer, who helps property owners understand the appraisal and protest process.
Even with those limitations, the Board of Directors has an important responsibility. It sets expectations for the district’s leadership and helps determine whether the organization is transparent, efficient and responsive to the public. It can ask hard questions, carefully review spending and make sure property owners have access to clear and useful information.
The board does not set property tax rates. Those rates are set by local taxing entities such as cities, school districts, the county and other special districts. Board members also do not determine the value of individual properties or decide the outcome of property-value protests. Those responsibilities belong to the appraisal staff and the independent Appraisal Review Board.

As a board member, my focus would be straightforward: responsible oversight, open communication and accountability to Tarrant County taxpayers. Property owners deserve an appraisal district that follows the law, uses public funds wisely and treats every taxpayer with professionalism and respect.
The appraisal system may be complicated, but the standard for public service should not be. Tarrant County residents deserve leadership they can trust.
